5 More Girls Softball Players Needed
MAA Softball's Farms division needs 5 more girls to round out their four teams for the upcoming Spring season. The Farms division is for girls in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade. Experience not necessary. Summer Job - Williston Park Pool
The Village of Williston Park is now accepting applications for employment during the summer of 2011 at the Village pool. Applicants must be 16 years of age before June 30, 2011 to apply for any of the positions included on the form. The applications must be post-marked by February 28, 2011. Basketball Free Throw Shooting Contest
All girls and boys aged 10-14 are invited to participate in a free throw shooting contest at the Corpus Christi gym on Tuesday, January 25th at 7pm. Proof of age is required at check-in. The contest is hosted by the Knights of Columbus Corpus Christi Council.
Reggie Carter Memorial Basketball Night
The Mineola High School Boys and Girls Basketball team will be hosting Seaford at the annual Reggie Carter Memorial Basketball Night on Friday, January 28th. The Boys JV Basketball team will be playing at 4:15, the Girls Varsity Basketball team will be playing at 6:00 and the Boys Varsity Basketball team will be playing at 8:00. Admission is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children and students. All proceeds will go toward the Reggie Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund for a 2011 graduating senior. Reggie Carter, a former basketball player for the New York Knicks, was Assistant Principal of Mineola High School (New York) until his death in 1999.

St Patrick's Day Parade March 6
2011 marks the 80th anniversary of the Irish American Center of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens, Inc. The organization hosts the annual St Patrick's Day Parade and this year's parade, the organizations 61st annual parade, will be held on Sunday, March 6. Renowned Irish Dance instructor Donny Golden will be this year's Grand Marshal. His official Aides for the day are Jackie Callaghan, Mary Mikowski, Chris Kerins and Tony Freeman.

TNH Announces 2011 Internship Program
Supervisor Jon Kaiman and North Hempstead Elected Officials announced today that North Hempstead is welcoming interns for the 2011 internship program.
“A Town of North Hempstead internship offers an invaluable learning experience for those interested in understanding how the public sector provides exceptional, quality of life services for our residents,” said Supervisor Kaiman. “Serving your community and working to make a difference is certainly a noble cause.”
The internship program provides students with work-related assignments connected to their academic major or general interest. The goal is for interns to receive a work experience that puts theory learned in the classroom into practical workplace skill development and work ethic.
Internships at the Town include, but are not limited to, the following: Building Department, Office of the Town Clerk, Office of the Receiver of Taxes, the Department of Information Technology, Public Relations & Media Department, the Department of Services for the Aging (DOSA), and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Students must be currently enrolled in a college or university or have applied to or been accepted into a degree program. Graduate students must be currently enrolled, or accepted in a graduate program. High school seniors are encouraged to apply as long as they are 17 years of age or older at the start of the internship.
Anyone interested in applying or learning more about the internship program at the Town should email their resume and a brief cover letter to internship@northhempsteadny.gov. New Urology Chairman Named at Winthrop
Winthrop University Hospital has named Dr. Robert A. Edelman as its Acting Chairman of Urology. An expert in endoscopic, percutaneous and open surgery of congenital and acquired conditions of the urinary and reproductive systems, Dr. Edelman has served as an attending physician at Winthrop since 1979 and as the Director of Cryotherapy (use of extreme cold to destroy unhealthy tissue) since 2007. Committed to medical education, Dr. Edelman is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Stony Brook University School of Medicine.

Williston Park Little League Registration Closing
The final registration for the WP Little League's Spring 2011 season will take place on the second floor at the WP Village Hall on January 27 (6:30 - 9pm) and January 29th and 30th (9am - 1:30pm both days). The league offers programs for kids born between May 1, 2005 and April 30, 2000. Volunteers are needed for coaching and umpire positions in the league. Mineola Poison Center Closes
Newsday reports that the Regional Poison Control Center in Mineola was closed due to State budget woes as of December 31. The center, operated out of Winthrop University Hospital, provided service for Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties. The center's nursing and physician staff processed more than 50,000 poison-related calls annually. The work of the Mineola center will be moved to Bellevue Medical Center in Manhattan.

St Aidan's Blood Drive
On Sunday, January 9 St Aidan's Church will host a blood drive in its parish school cafeteria (upper school) between 8am - 1:30pm. All donors need to bring a valid photo id and know there social security number. Anyone aged between 16 and 75 years old can donate so long as they weigh 110 pounds. Please eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood.

Irish American Center Social Meetings Every Monday
From 12pm - 3pm each Monday the Irish American Center hosts a social club at its Willis Avenue hall. Coffee and tea are served. Mineola Library Concerts in January
The Mineola Village Library will host two concerts during January. The Rob Crowe Situation bring their mixture of poetry, jazz and folk music to the library on Saturday, January 22 at 3pm. The Homegrown String Band, one of America's premier purveyor of family style original and non-traditional acoustic American roots music, performs on Saturday, January 29 at 2pm.
