Mineola Poison Center Closes

Newsday reports that the Regional Poison Control Center in Mineola was closed due to State budget woes as of December 31.  The center, operated out of Winthrop University Hospital, provided service for Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties.  The center's nursing and physician staff processed more than 50,000 poison-related calls annually.  The work of the Mineola center will be moved to Bellevue Medical Center in Manhattan.
